We talk about our passion for design a lot, but we have a secret for you: Pear Tree’s designs aren’t just beautiful — they’re award-winning!

We are so proud of being both a LOUIE Award finalist and a winner. These awards are all about, in their words, “celebrating the art, editorial, and design of greeting cards and invitations.” Creating exceptional design is one of our flagship principles, so being recognized for our work is an incredible honor.

Truly Award-Winning Design

But we don’t do what we do for the glory. For us, it’s all about the love of the work and the excitement of seeing you love it, too. Our joy is bringing unique Christmas cards from our design team’s creative minds to your hands. Outside recognition is just the icing on the cake!

It’s time to start collecting family Christmas photo ideas if you haven’t already taken that perfect photo. For us, one of the most important (and difficult!) decisions when planning your family photo is deciding what to wear. But it’s worth the effort. Coming up with some sort of theme, even a simple color palette, can turn an ordinary family photo into a portrait worth hanging on your wall—not to mention a beautiful Christmas card!

If you’re having your photos taken by a professional photographer, be sure to ask them for clothing ideas that will work best in the location you’ve chosen. He or she is certain to have a few ideas. To give you some examples, we’ve gathered a few family Christmas photo ideas that we love, focusing on the clothing choices and how they affect the photo.

Light colors
When the whole family is wearing light colors, it focuses attention on the darker colors in the photo, such as facial features, hair color, or the beautiful scenery in the background. We like a mix of light colors, which looks more natural than everyone wearing the same color.

Dark colors
The dark colors this family is wearing make them stand out against the lighter sky and field. The dark blue color solidly grounds them and gives them the appearance of a tight unit, which is a nice subliminal message for a family photo.

When we’re designing Christmas cards (or any other cards, for that matter) our inspiration comes from anywhere and everywhere—fashion, home decor, textiles, pop culture, events, you name it. Sometimes it all comes together perfectly, like in this year’s holiday collection.

Hottest Christmas cards trends

We filled a Pinterest board with some of the hottest trends to influence our Christmas card ideas this year, including bright colors, stripes and patterns, mixed fonts, vintage shapes and natural elements. See if you can spot some of these trends in our new holiday cards!

Birthday party ideasMy Grandma Rose is so special to my family and me. Turning 90 years old is quite the milestone, and we wanted to make her birthday party very special and memorable—not only for her, but for the guests!

All of our birthday party ideas started with the invite. I was unsure which card I wanted to use and was tossing around several ideas, including Postal Delivery Invitation Postcard, or repurposing our Lasting Introduction birth announcement or Circles of Celebration trifold party invitations, the two-sided tri-fold was perfect for a 90th birthday party invitation! I was able to share a timeline, showcasing the highlights of Grandma’s 90 years of happiness! To make these invites stick out in the mailbox, I used Tying the Knot Address Labels in hot pink to seal it shut.

I received a lot of compliments about the invite. One of Grandma’s friends was so excited that she said she had been showing everybody and was going to take it to coffee and show all of her friends! She said it was the most unique invite she had ever received.

Once the invite was ordered, I got to work on planning the party and making the decorations. I wanted the guests to leave with a remembrance of Grandma Rose, so I made little photo magnets using the same photos I used on the invite. Then I packaged them using clear bags and stapling Cupcake Love Kids Stationery and Looking Linear Confetti to the bags. It was a fun token for the guests to take home and put on their fridge in honor of Grandma Rose.

Hello again, I hope you had a lovely couple of months. His+Hers=Ours is back to talk about Scott’s and my new, exciting wedding ideas!

Scott and I have been busy, busy this summer. We’ve gone to five weddings and we still have three to go! Now that we’re engaged, we go to each wedding looking at all the details to see what inspires us and what we could do at our wedding. It’s been fun picking up wedding ideas from all of them and thinking of ways to put our own twist on them. Here are some of our favorite ideas:wedding ideas

First Dance. At one of the wedding receptions, after the DJ announced the entire wedding party – ushers, bridesmaids, groomsmen and the newly Mr. & Mrs. – the bride and groom went straight into their first dance with their wedding party surrounding the dance floor. We had never seen this before and it was absolutely wonderful. Everyone was so engaged with the dance, taking pictures, tearing up and watching the love between them. At other weddings we haven’t noticed the first dance as much, because it’s usually after guests have eaten and everyone is finishing their dinner or dessert, getting a drink or visiting the restroom – it isn’t exactly the most romantic time of the evening. I feel the first dance is a special moment between the newlyweds, and we want our closest friends and family to see it. I know they will, if we use this idea.

Give your daughter’s Bat Mitzvah celebration the royal treatment, like this Pretty in Purple Bat Mitzvah featured at celebrations.com. With our Linear Star of David Bat Mitzvah invitations as inspiration, purple became the theme for all of these Bat Mitzvah party ideas, including modern decorations and even the menu!

Linear Star of David in Purple -- Bat Mitzvah InvitesTables were set with solid purple tablecloths, and purple and white runners provided textural interest to the display. Gold place settings became the perfect accent to the royal purple, dotted with purple confetti. Centerpieces of purple phlox and white roses carried the color scheme through, and were spiked with gold metallic leaves for accent. Gold leaves and white linen napkins were tucked into the water goblets.
