Flowers: A growing trend at larger flower stores and farmers markets is to offer DIY workshops where you can bring friends and create your own bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres or floral decorations a few days before the wedding. We’ve also heard of people offering to do it as a gift to the wedding couple.

Hello again. After our wedding day in September, I wanted to share with you 3 of our favorite wedding ideas we did to make our day truly memorable for us as well as our guests.
1. Photo Time! Get your guests to share the excitement by having your photographer take photos of the bride and groom with each table. Our DJ made it into a fun game that we had to get photos with all the tables within one song. It was so great to see photos from ALL the guests that attended. Tip: we printed off the photos and we included it with our thank you notes. So the guests had a copy with the bride & groom!

Ashley Mitchell, a marketing communications professional, and Chad Rittgers, a business development consultant, met in a way that can only be described as youthfully serendipitous: While vacationing with friends one Memorial Day weekend on Paso Robles’ Lake Nacimiento, Ashley ventured off on an inner tube and happened upon Chad’s party boat. She had never imagined that she would meet the love of her life over Jell-O shots, but that’s exactly what happened. The adventurous, fun-loving pair were engaged several years later during a spontaneous road trip up the Northern California coast.
For the outdoorsy duo, an alfresco venue was a must. When they came across Fremont’s Ardenwood, a historic farm named after the forested area in England that Shakespeare mentions in As You Like It, they knew they had found the perfect spot for their nuptials. One of the property’s defining features is a Victorian mansion surrounded by elaborate gardens, and this inspired the theme of the event—“a playful garden party with a vintage vibe.”
Armed with an inspiration board from The Perfect Palette, Ashley and Chad went to work crafting their dream wedding from scratch. Almost every detail was handmade, from the ceremony arch, which Chad constructed out of tree trimmings, to the cheerful billy buttons, which were grown in Ashley’s father’s garden.

Featuring illusion vine beading, Ashley’s stunning chiffon gown was designed by Tadashi Shoji. Her bridesmaids donned mismatched dresses in shades of pale peach.
24 days till our wedding day! Feels like just yesterday we were enjoying the views of Duluth, MN during our engagement weekend. But here we are, and all the details are coming together so I wanted to give you a few of my wedding ideas and tips we’ve learned over the past two months since my last His+Hers=Ours post.
Wedding dress alterations. I made an appointment with the boutique where I bought my wedding dress to get it altered nearly three months before our wedding date. When I got to my appointment, the seamstress came in and before doing anything I wanted an estimate of how much it would cost. She looked at it and priced it out at $500 for alterations!! I nearly fainted. I wasn’t sure how much alterations were supposed to cost, but $500 is not what I was expecting. I called my MOH and she advised me to leave the boutique. I did and my fiancé’s mom found a lady who makes wedding dresses that could do my alterations. I met with her and she is perfect. Tip: be sure to ask the cost before getting into anything & know your MOH is always there to help you 🙂
Response cards. Tip: When creating your wedding invitations and personalizing your ‘reply by’ date on your response cards, be sure to do it two weeks before you need to provide your number to your reception hall or caterer. This will give you enough time to call, text, email the guests who haven’t responded. Continue reading
We are now at the 3-month mark until our wedding! The past couple months have been very productive and, definitely, a learning adventure. Here are a few things we’ve crossed off our list, and some helpful tips and wedding ideas to go with them.
1. Food. We have been looking at the list of food options that our reception hall offers for over a year, drooling every time we looked at it. And finally, it was time to do our food tasting! We picked four different items from the menu and tried those first. They were good, but it wasn’t until we were eating that we figured out what was important to us. We realized we didn’t want to serve something at our wedding that you could order at any restaurant in town. We wanted something a little more memorable. Tip: Before making the decision on what you’d like to taste test, ask the caterer what their top entrees are in your price range and talk over what you think would be the biggest crowd pleaser. We did that for our second tasting and wow! Ah-mazing! We are now very confident with our food choice.
2. Invitations. Wedding invitations are such a big deal. This is the only communication piece between you and all your guests, so it better be clear and informative. You do not want guests calling friends or family members (or worse, you!) to get the time of the ceremony or address of the reception hall. Better to err on the side of giving too much information than not enough. Tip: If you can’t fit all the information within your wedding invitation ensemble, direct them to your wedding website for additional information.
